When approaching a railway crossing and passing through the level crossing, the driver is obliged to exercise particular caution:
- Before entering the tracks, he is obliged to make sure (observe the level crossing and its surroundings) that no rail vehicle is approaching,
- To pass smoothly through the level crossing at an appropriate speed, without downshifting,
- If the barriers are raised at the level crossing (e.g. failure of the control device), this does not guarantee that a train is not approaching.
