1. The driver of a vehicle is obliged to signal the stop of a motor vehicle or trailer due to damage or an accident:
1) on a motorway or expressway – in each case;
2) on other hard-surface roads:
a) outside built-up areas – when stopping on the carriageway in a place where it is prohibited, and on the roadside, if the vehicle is not visible from a sufficient distance,
b) in a built-up area – when stopping on the carriageway in a place where stopping is prohibited.
2. The stoppage of the vehicle referred to in par. 1 should be signalled in the following manner:
1) on a motorway or expressway – by:
a) switching on the vehicle's hazard warning lights, and if the vehicle is not equipped with them, switching on the position lights;
b) placing a reflective warning triangle at a distance of 100 m behind the vehicle; this triangle is placed on the roadway or verge, depending on where the vehicle is stationary;
2) on other roads:
a) outside built-up areas – by placing a reflective warning triangle at a distance of 30-50 m behind the vehicle and switching on the hazard warning lights; if the vehicle is not equipped with hazard warning lights, the position lights should be switched on,
b) in built-up areas – by switching on the hazard warning lights, and if the vehicle is not equipped with hazard warning lights, the position lights should be switched on and a warning triangle should be placed behind or on the vehicle, at a height of no more than 1 m.
